I’ve
always liked these sweet candied oranges dipped in chocolate. Having Celiac
always made me reluctant to eat one of them. What if they have any wheat
derivative in them? What if they are cross-contaminated? I decided to try them
at home and they turned out delicious and yummy! Try them at home and you will
enjoy the taste. Keep some to offer to guests J
Ingredients
-
4 navel or Valencia oranges (I used Valencia)
-
2 ½ cups sugar
- 2 cups water
-
100 grams chocolate (I used 70 % dark chocolate)
-
1 tsp canola oil or coconut oil
Method
- Wash the oranges well and slice them into thin slices.
- Put the water and sugar in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
- Add the orange slices, cover them with parchment paper and a plate to keep them totally submerged, and bring to a boil.
- Lower the heat and let them simmer for 1 hour.
- Take the orange slices from the syrup and put on a rack to dry overnight.
- Lay the orange slices on an oven rack and put them in a pre-heated oven on low heat (150°C) for 1 hour 15 minutes.
- Take the orange slices from the oven and cut each slice into two.
- Meanwhile, melt the chocolate using the bain-marie technique.
- Add the canola or coconut oil to the chocolate and stir well.
- The oil will give a shine to the chocolate.
- Dip the orange segments in the chocolate and lay on a rack to dry.
- You can put in the fridge if the weather is hot for the chocolate to set.
- Keep in a jar with a tight lid preferably refrigerated.
